Bring in your project data from other products

If you’ve been tracking project work somewhere else, you can bring that data into Jira Work Management.
You have a couple of options depending on the source of the project data and the destination for that data:
  • Import from a comma-separated value (CSV) file
  • Import from Trello
Before bringing project work data into Jira Work Management, you’ll need to export the data from its previous location and prepare the file.

Export your data

The documentation for the tool you are exporting from will have the most current instructions, but this is our general guidance:
  • From Asana — We recommend exporting your Asana data to CSV to import it to Jira Work Management. Asana tasks can be created without a name. Since Jira Work Management requires issues to have a summary, unnamed tasks will be given a default name.
  • From ClickUp — We recommend exporting your ClickUp data to CSV to import it to Jira Work Management. Date and time fields in the ClickUp export include both unix format and plain text. You can use a website like Epoch Converter to convert unix timestamps to regular date/time stamps.
  • From Excel — We recommend exporting your Excel data to CSV to import it to Jira Work Management. Clean up all unnecessary information or macros from the spreadsheet and make sure that the table columns are labeled correctly. When you're ready, select File > Save As and select CSV from the Format menu.
  • From Monday — We recommend exporting your Monday data to Excel and saving it as CSV to import it to Jira Work Management. Monday dashboards aren’t included in your export from Monday, but the data is included in the .zip file.

Import from Trello

When importing data from Trello, there’s no need to export it first.
The ability to import from external systems is only available to Jira Work Management product administrators.
Importing Trello data creates a Jira Work Management project for each Trello board. The Trello boards available for import are based on the boards of which you are a member. If you need to import Trello boards for others, they would need to export the data for those Trello boards to CSV.
To import Trello data and create Jira Work Management projects:
  1. Navigate to Jira Work Management.
  2. Select (Settings) from the top right of the global navigation bar.
  3. Select System in the Jira Settings section.
  4. Select External System Import in the Import and Export section.
  5. Select Trello.
  6. Review the warning, and select Next.
  7. Select Allow.
  8. Select the Trello boards you want to import.
  9. Select Next.
  10. Enter the email address for each user mentioned on the Trello board you are importing. If they're an existing Jira Work Management user, you should enter the email address they currently use to log in. If you enter an email address that doesn't have access to your Jira Work Management site, we'll send them an invite.
  11. Select Begin import.
  12. When the import is complete, select the name of the new project in the What now? section to view it.

PRO TIP — If you want to import project work into Trello, you can do this using APIs or a Trello Power-up.
