Introduction
“All you need is the plan, the road map, and the courage to press on to your destination.” - Earl Nightingale (Author)
Roadmaps are powerful tools because they can create clear visibility of where we are going and by when. Regularly getting together with the program leadership and stakeholders to review the roadmap is critical to making quick, collective decisions as well as providing transparency.
Decision to make
- In the review meeting, assess whether the program roadmap can achieve the mission of the program
Context
- Themes, epics, and features have been identified and targeted to future planning periods (and aligned with the current planning period)
- Known release opportunities/release vehicles are entered and associated with work items
Why we care
- Roadmaps represent business planning of key work across time
- Roadmaps offer an essential dialogue point for business and technology stakeholders to help convey understanding of the “demand” balanced against the constraint of the “supply”
The Atlassian view
- By offering real-time roadmaps that support planning scenarios, along with dynamic updating of the current status of execution, all roles in an organization can come together with a commonly understood plan depicting a path to success
