Conclusion

Consider the following questions when making decisions around team organization and visibility.

Factors for decision-making

  1. Are the teams in the program considered scrum teams (working in defined sprints), kanban teams (no defined sprint boundary, but pulling in work as it is ready), or shared services teams (not exclusively serving a specific program)?
  2. Are there frequent handoffs, integration needs, and dependencies between the teams while executing?
  3. Do all the teams in the program belong to the same, or different, organizations?
  4. Are the teams on a common planning and sprint cadence?
  5. Are the team-level practices consistent for all the teams in the program or team-of-teams?
  6. For each team in Align, we need a way to discover where their work is in their designated team tool.
  7. Who is the person who gets to make the decision about what the scrum team is going to work on in a sprint?
  8. Are people usually assigned to one team or do they typically get assigned to many teams?
  9. Are all the teams involved in delivering software included in Jira Align?
