Background

• Many teams will include their features (e.g. epics in Jira) as part of their team project, but this can lead to teams owning the features vs. the entire program
• Creating a separate feature project in Jira and moving all features to this project enables program ownership of features

How to

Learn how to establish a feature backlog in Jira and Jira Align

1. In Jira, click on Projects on the navigation and select “Create project”
   1. Select Software Development from the Project Templates
      1. Select Kanban from the available project types to create
      2. Click the Use template button on the bottom right of the modal
      3. Click the Select a company-managed project
      4. Enter the feature project information for the program
         1. Set Name to “<Program Name> Feature Project”
         2. Set Key to a unique identifier for issue (e.g. PROG)
         3. Leave all other options as default
         4. Click Create project
   2. Work with your Jira Admin and Jira Align Admin to complete the following:
      1. Remove all issue types available to the project except Epic
      2. Update the project workflow to map properly to Jira Align
      3. Integrate project with Jira Align
      4. Move all program features from team projects to the new feature project

Output and next steps

• Once integrated, validate in Jira Align the features have updated with the new project keys (e.g. PROG-123)
